One hour before the 1PM race start, the skies suddenly grew dark over Rec Park, the wind rushed in knocking down leaves and branches and blew registration papers off tables...then the deluge of rain and race director Barbara Morrissey, wrapped in a plastic poncho, brightly exclaimed..."Just a passing shower, folks, I can see sunshine over on Main Street!"
About 520 runners and walkers shared Barb's faith in the improving weather and the rain cleared out in time for the start of the 6th annual Lung Cancer Awareness 5k. Kudos to Barb for such a successful event, the sole purpose of which is to raise awareness of Lung cancer. There is also a picture of TCRC member Jean Ziolkowski's son John, 15, crossing the finish line. John is a freshman at Seton Catholic High School, whose S.A.D.D. team won first place in the Team Challenge.
Below are open and age group awards, followed by overall results. Congratulations to TCRC member Mike Olson and his wife, Kristin, who took 2nd Overall in the men's and women's races, respectively. BU student Akbay Birant, 18, won the men's race and former Owego High School XC and track runner Yvonne Smith, now 24, was the first Female.
