Irish eyes were smiling on Saturday morning when the skies cleared in Binghamton for the St. Patrick's Parade and Shamrock Run. Many familiar faces were seen in the field of 52 runners for just the second running of this race, and over ten thousand people lined the course!
The race was won by Michael Murphy in 5:06, followed by Ben Israel in 5:17, and David Bacon in 5:19. David won the high school division which featured more than half of the race's participants!
For the women, high schooler Rachel Hale won in a quick 5:47. She edged out open division winner Anna Robak in 5:47, and both were closely followed by David's sister Mimi Bacon in 5:50.
The "Most Irish Spirit" awards went to Jeff Hall (who ran the windy course in a kilt!) and Emily Fox.
Our small race was a big success thanks to the help of our sponsor and volunteers. The McKinley Banquet Hall in Endicott generously sponsored the race. We would also like to thank the Triple Cities Runners Club for their help, particularly George Joseph for timing, George Groome for helping on the website, and Grace Tabeek for the newsletter. Also, thank you to Dave Cody for measuring the course, and Dave Kettle for the t-shirts.
