Thanks to some very generous donations from the participants of the 6th Annual Red Dress Run, a record $585 was raised for the Crime Victims Assistance Center. As usual, conditions were sultry, but that didn't seem to discourage the more that 40 runners who turned out resplendent in red! There were long dresses, short dresses, bangles, hats, beads and handbags. In other words, as usual, red dress runners went all out, accessorizing from head to toe.
Here are the results.
Two participants must be thanked for their extraordinary contributions. As many know, the entry fee that is requested is a $5 donation. However, Mr. Myron Mokris contributed $200! Mr. David Castner raised over $100. It turns out that none of his co-workers at Broome Security thought he was secure enough in his "manliness" to don a red dress. Well, he proved them wrong and raised lots of money for a good cause in the process. Thank you gentlemen for your very generous donations!
As with any run, volunteers are also a key to success. Thanks goes to Barb Morrissey and Michael Navarro for helping with the judging. Alan Jones and Sue Priestly provided much needed water stops on the sweltering evening and Alan was also kind enough to provide course maps. Co- race director Brendan Flynn made great t-shirts for award winners and brought the melon, as usual. We look forward to the car horns tooting at the red mass on Hooper Road again next year!
