Wow! The turnout and support at the 7th Annual Red Dress Run were amazing. Brendan and I are thrilled that this event seems to get better each year. We had a record number of participants - 59 people and one dog (dressed in red). We raised a record amount of money for the Crime Victims Assistance Center (CVAC)-- about $600. Mr. Myron Mokris (recipient of most Creative Coiffure) made a very generous donation of $300! Thank you, thank you. Many other runners gave well beyond the requested $5 donation. Your generosity is very much appreciated.
The acting Director of the Crime Victims Assistance Center, Molly Nearing, and some Board of Director members, Paul VanSavage and JoAnn Navarro were on hand to thank the runners. This was a first.
We were amazed by the turnout, and there were some other things that signal the run is catching on in the Endwell neighborhoods it passes through. There were some spectators that clearly planned for the event. On the unforgiving and endless hill that is Pheasant Street, a curbside cocktail party was underway-- martinis I believe. They were clapping and chanting as the red clad runners toiled up the hill, some hoping they had come upon the first water stop.. Well, it was a watering hole, but not the hoped for water stop. Further up the course other neighbors had set out chairs or stood on the curbs cheering on the runners. The support was most welcome.
Thanks you's to many people including those who helped with the "real" water stops: Alan Jones (thanks for the hose too), Sue Priestly, and Ed Jenner. Our judges this year were Mary Ann Thompson, Molly Nearing and Paul VanSavage from CVAC, and Michael Navarro. It was a tough job. There were some pretty fine frocks. Dan Dougherty assisted with the clock and finish line. Brendan did a great job with the t-shirts and I produced the matching certificates. Thanks to George Groome for getting pictures up on the website--FAST.
